Marie B Finstad

Marie B Finstad was born on October 7, 1887, in Holmes City Township,
Minnesota, the daughter of Ole and Oline (Grambo) Sogaarden. She
attended Pocket Lake School in Holmes City Township. Marie also
received a teacher’s degree in Minneapolis and later taught school in
Douglas County.
In 1927 she married Johnnie Johnson and they farmed in Pope County,
Ben Wade Township. Johnnie died in 1935 and Marie later moved to
Minneapolis where she married Ole Finstad in 1942. They made their home in Minneapolis until 1954 and then moved to rural Brainerd until 1969 when Ole died. Marie then lived with Willie and Myrtle Skogstad in
Kensington until March of 1980 when she entered Bethany HOme. Marie
died on Tuesday, January 6, 1981, at the Douglas County Hospital at the
age of 93 years.
She is survived by nephews: Stanley Femrite of Lowry; Murville
Femrite of Alexandria; and Marcus P Reece of Farwell. Nieces: Mrs Ovila
(Jacobson) Hyde of Denver, Colorado; Mrs Leonhard (Odella) Solheim Baak,of Sioux City, Iowa and Mrs Si (Evelyn) Solheim Johnson of Everett,
Washington. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, son Paul in
1929, husband Johnnie in 1935, husband Ole in 1969, four brothers and
six sisters. She is the last survivor of the Sogaarden family.
Funeral services were Saturday, January 10, 1981 at 11:00 AM at the
Anderson Funeral Chapel, Alexandria, Minnesota with Rev Philip Westby
officiating. Interment was in Trysil-Bethesda Cemetery, Holmes City,
Minnesota.
Pallbearers were Rodney Femrite, Lyle Femrite, Robert Femrite, David
Reece, Luther Femrite, James Femrite, Paul Reece and Joe Reece.
Organist was Mary Anderson and soloist Harold Bergby sang “Den Store
Hvide Flok” and “What A Friend We Have in Jesus”. Arrangements were
with the Anderson Funeral Home.
