Brandon and community were greatly grieved Sunday morning to hear of the sudden death of W. Werner, one of their oldest and most highly respected citizens.

Although Mr. Werner had not been in the best of health for some time, he was able to be up and around.  His passing away comes as a great shock to his family.  He slept peacefully away about six o’clock Sunday morning.

Wigo Werner was born in Osterdalen, Norway, on the 4th day of May, 1856, and passed away August 19, 1934 at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 15 days.  He was one of a family of seven children, all of whom have preceded him in death with the exception of a sister, Mrs. Martha Nymon of Fargo, ND, and a brother Martin Werner of Novata, California.

Wigo Werner spent his younger days in his native land.  When he was 21 years of age he came to the United States, going directly to Fargo, N.D.  He remained there with his people for one year and then went to Decorah, Iowa, to attend school.  He received a good education, finishing with a course at the Decorah business college.

Some time later he came to Brandon, Minn., and engaged in clerking in a general merchandise store for Lorenz Johnson.  This he followed for 3-1/2 years and then entered into business for himself.  He was engaged in the general mercantile business for over thirty years.

In public matters he was one of the leading citizens of the town, and held many offices of trust.  For seven years he served as the Brandon postmaster.  On February 22, 1886 he was united in marriage with Miss Anne Foslien.  To this union two daughters were born:  (Alice) Mrs. A.B. Burkee of Badger, Minn., and (Cora) Mrs. Edward F. Johnson, of Alexandria.

There are 4 grandchildren, Camilla and Helen Burkee of Badger and Arlene and Elinor Johnson of Alexandria.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon with a private service at the home for the family and from Grace Lutheran church at 2:30 o’clock, Rev. C. B. Bestul officiating.
