Henry Olaf Myhr

Henry Olaf Myhr passed away at the Douglas County hospital, Alexandria at 9:15 am, August 28, 1939, being at the time of his death 59 years, 4 months and 3 days.

He had been in poor health more or less for about seven years. His last illness was mainly heart trouble with complications. On Friday, August 25 he suffered a stroke, after which he gradually grew worse until the end came.

Henry Myhr was born in Holmes City township, Douglas county on April 25, 1880. His parents were Peder O. and Hannah (Strandvold) Myhr.

On May 31, 1902 he was united in marriage to Tillie O. Femrite at the Trysil church.

Surviving are his wife, four sons and four daughters: Sarah (Mrs. Bennett Soberg) and Harold Myhr of Farwell, Martha (Mrs. Herbert Hjelm ) and Marie (Mrs. Harold Johnson) of Alexandria; Clifton Myhr of Minneapolis, Hilda, Reuben and Lawrence at home, six grandchildren, one brother and three sisters; Martin and Priscilla Myhr of Farwell; Ragna ( Mrs. C. Christofferson) of Eugene, Ore., Helga ( Mrs. S.J. Lindseth) Borup, Minn.

Henry Myhr was a life-long member of Trysil congregation, having been baptized in Trysil church by Rev. T.K. Moen, confirmed by Rev. H. Jenson and married by Rev. B.A. Benson. He had served as treasurer and deacon and was at the time of his death secretary of the congregation. He also held various offices in civic organizations.

Funeral services were held on Friday, September 1 at 1:30 o’clock from the Myhr home and 2:00 from the Trysil church; Rev. A.J. Sheldahl officiating. He used as his text John, II, the story of the death of Lazarus.

Rev. E.O. Lee, a cousin, gave a few remarks based on 2 Cor. 5:1. Rev. S.J. Lindseth represented the family, thanking for the kindnesses shown the deceased and the family during the illness and death of his brother-in-law. He based his remarks by reading from I Thes. 4:13-18.

K.O. Lee, a cousin sang “En Store Hinde Flok” and Helen Lindseth, a niece, sang “Asleep in Jesus.”

He was interred in the Trysil cemetery.

The pall bearers were Lannie Isackson, Henry Grondahl, Henry Hanson, Robert Anderson, Oliver Omland and Clarence Soberg.

The large crowd that attended the funeral gave evidence of the love and respect in which the departed was held. Those from a distance who attended were: Rev. E.O. Lee, Hannaford, N.D, Dr and Mrs. K.O. Lee, Moorhead, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lee, Harold and Helga Lee of Fargo, N.D., Mr. and Mrs. Hjalmar Lee, Randolph Lee and K. Strandvold of Argusville, N.D., Mr. and Mrs. Grant Femrite and son Edsel of St. Paul, Irene Foslien, Clifton Myhr and Mrs. Peter Foss, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Foslien and Audrey of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Vinje and children of Clontarf. Rev and Mrs.S. J. Lindseth and family of Borup and many other friends from far and near.
The floral tributes were many and beautiful. There were also many gifts to missions given in his memory.
