KAREN ALETTA MATTSON

Karen Aletta Mattson passed away and entered into her eternal Sabbath rest May 29, 1934. She had been ailing for about three weeks with rheumatism but it was not considered serious. Thursday, May 24th, she became critically ill. All that medical skill and loving care could do was done but she gradually weakened as her heart could not stand the strain.

Tuesday morning at 9:30 o’clock she peacefully passed away unafraid and fully assured that, “which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast and which entereth into that within the veil.” Heb. 6:19.

Karen Aletta was born in La Grand township. When she was four years old her parents, Mr and Mrs Amund Mattson, moved and settled on the present farm home near Farwell. Here she spent most of her life. She was home loving and faithful and will be greatly missed in her home and among her friends.

She is survived by three sisters who deeply feel her loss. Her parents and four brothers have preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 2nd, at 1:30 from the home and 2 o’clock at the Trysil church, Rev J C Vaage officiating. “Just As I Am: and “Jesus Saviour Pilot Me” were sung at the home and “Nearer My God to Three” at the church. The services were conducted in American except one of her favorite songs, “Hin Time I Getsemans” was sung by Rev Vaage, accompanied by Mrs Vaage. Rev Vaage gave an impressive sermon, taking as his text, “He went into Gethsemane”. Burial was made in the church cemetery. Rest in peace dear sister. The pallbearers were Theo Swenson, Louis Gulbranson, Theo Johnson, Emil Gulbranson and John Johnson.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr and Mrs L Brizeika, Miss Lydia Eiben and Johnny Eiben, all of Milnor, ND.

When at last I near the shore,

And the fearful breakers roar

“Twixt me and the peaceful rest

May I hear thee say to me

“Fear not, I will pilot Thee”.
