Death of Amund Matson

Amund Matson, born in Solør, Norway, April 26, 1833*, died at his home in Holmes City last Friday. He underwent an operation for a cancer on his lip last summer and since then has not been quite well. He was married to Kaisa Johnson of Solør, Norway, in 1861** and came to Northfield, Minn in 1868 where he was engaged in the carpenter trade. They lived there about two years when they moved onto his farm in La Grand. From there they went to Holmes City township where they have lived since.

He leaves a wife and seven children, five of whom were present at the funeral which took place at the Trysil Church, Rev B A Benson officiating.

Mr. Amund Mattson was operated on for cancer by Drs. Gibbon and Christenson.  The operation was done without the help of chloroform .~ Alexandria Post News, 13 Oct 1908.

Note: Amund Mathisen Sundsbakken was born in Hof, Solør, Norway 26 Apr 1832* (according to the Norwegian National Archives) and later moved to Trysil where he lived at Sundsbakken and was known as a “snekker” or carpenter. His wife, Kaisa Johnsdtr. was born in Sweden. Amund and Kaisa emigrated from Trysil in 1868 with four children:
Johanne Mathea Amundsdtr. , b. 22 Jun 1858 in Trysil
Johan Amunds. b. 15 Jul 1861 in Trysil
Kristian Amunds. b. 10 Jan 1864 in Trysil
August Amunds. b. 22 May 1866 in Trysil
Other children were born in America.
