Services Will Be Conducted Friday

Services for Rev. John E. Lobeck, 74, of 2024 Twenty-sixth avenue S., who died Monday, will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Trinity Lutheran church, with burial in Sunset Memorial park.

Born in Norway, Rev. Lobeck came to the United States in 1867. He was graduated from Augsburg college in 1889 and spent many years teaching in various public and private educational institutions in the northwest. He was ordained a minister in 1913 and had held pastorates in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Marinnette, Wis., and Aniwa, Wis.

Surviving are his wife, Emma; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie (Kari) Petterson, Williston, N.D., and Mrs. Olaf Refstad (sic, Refsdal), Cook, Minn., and a brother, Ingerinus Lobeck, Appam, N.D.

Pastor John E. Lobeck dead. Pastor John Engebretsen Lobeck died Monday last week by in his home, 2024 26th Ave. S., at the age of 74 years. The deceased was born in Trysil, søndre Østerdalen, Norway and emigrated to America in 1867. After that he went to Augsburg Seminary from 1881 to 1886, Minneapolis Academy in 1886-87 and Valparaiso University in 1887-88 . In 1889 he got a (A.B.) at Augsburg Seminary and 1890-91 he studied at Minnesota University. For many years He was a teacher_ in 1889-90 at Wraaman’s Academy, Minneapolis; from 1890 to 1898 in the public school in Farwell, Minn.; from 1899 to 1901 at Northwestern Bible school , Belgrade Minn; from 1901 to 1906 at Wartburg Mission school ; from 1906 to 1912 at Oak Grove Girls Seminary and from 1912 to 1915 at Augsburg Seminary. In 1912 he began to study at Augsburg’s Seminar Theological teacher’s college (seminar) – theological section_ and was therefore a candidate ( for ordination) from Augsburg the following year. Since then he was a minister in St. Paul area about five years and at Trefoldighet Church, Minneapolis, in 1919-20. In 1920-22 he served as assistant editior for the paper called Folkebladet . After that he was employed for a time by the (Lutheran) Free Church’s bookstore. Starting in 1925 he was a teacher connected to Augsburg Seminary. In 1931 he served for a year as minister in Marinette, WI and after that for four years in Aniwa, WI. Last summer he retired from active employment and settled in Minneapolis. Pastor Lobeck was in 1918-19 one of the assistant editors for the publication of “Menighedskalenderen” and ‘History of Norwegian Lutheran Schools”. He has also been a member of the board for Augsburg College and secretary of the board of the Deaconess Hospital. He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Lobeck, two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Petterson at Williston, ND and Mrs. Olaf Refsdal at Cook, MN together with a brother, Ingerinus Lobeck at Appam, ND — The funeral was on Friday from Trefoldighet Lutheran church with interment at Sunset Memorial Park
