Elemine was 11 years old when she came to America in 1868 with her parents and brothers and sisters and settled in Holmes City township, Douglas co, MN. The following June 1869 she experienced the trauma of watching 4 of her siblings die in one week.

She was confirmed in Trysil church, Holmes City township on 28 Sep 1873

IN 1877 she moved with her family to Becker county, MN, settling near Audobon. There she met and married John Lethenstrom who had immigrated from Sweden to Chicago in 1869. When the Northwest opened up by the building of the Northern Pacific railroad he came north attracted by the fine farming land open for homesteading. He took a claim by Oak Lake and built his farm there.

Elemine and John lived next door to Elemine’s parents and siblings. By 1890 Elemine was having some mental problems and hospitalized. For a few years, she was in and out of hospital and family members helped care for the five children of John and Elemine. After 1900 her remaining years were spent in hospital.
