Mrs. Mandt Gulbranson

Mrs. Mandt Gulbranson died at her home in Holmes City Township last Thursday, April 14th, just a week after the death of her husband’s father.  She had been sick for over a year, an attack of influenza turning to tuberculosis.

Mrs. Gulbranson’s maiden name was Mathilde Hendrickson.  She was born in Trysil, Norway October 23, 1883 and was 37 years, 5 months, and 22 days old at the time of her death.  She came to this country June 4, 1904 to Douglas County.  Later she homesteaded near Noonan, ND where she operated a restaurant. She then came back to Minnesota to be married. On Feb. 24, 1912, she was married to Mandt Gulbranson, the marriage taking place in the city of Alexandria.

Five children came to bless their home, Oliver, age 8, Elvin 7, Milo 5, Lyle 3, Doris, 22 months old.

Her father, two sisters and two brothers live in Norway.  One sister at Ambrose, N. Dak., one sister at Noonan, N. Dak.  In Canada there are three brothers and one sister.

A niece in North Dakota used to live with Mr. and Mrs. Gulbranson.

The funeral was held Saturday, interment being in Van Loon Cemetery.  Rev. Eidness officiated at the funeral.  His text was Psalm 35:14: “I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother;  I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother. ” A very large attendance at the funeral expressed the sympathy of the many friends and neighbors.  She was of a beautiful character, a lovable disposition, and was liked and respected by all who came in contact with her.

The pallbearers were John and Peter Hendrickson, Louis, Emil, and Iver Gulbranson and George Olson.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John Henrickson and baby and Peter Henrickson from Ettington, Sask., Canada, a sister Mrs. Carl Ledahl of Ambrose, N. Dak.; the niece Mrs. Carl Finnesgard and baby from Ambrose, N. Dak.; Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Studien and children of Kensington; Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Studien of Alexandria.

The sympathy of the entire neighborhood goes out to the bereaved and children.
