Mrs. Johanna Nordby

Mrs. Johanna Nordby, Douglas county resident for over half a century passed away at the Bethany Home for the aged in Alexandria, June 17, 1937, at the age of seventy five years and 16 days. Mr. Nordby died in 1916 and Mrs. Nordby had been a resident at the Bethany Home for the past three years. She had lived at the farm home after Mr. Nordby’s death until she came to Bethany Home.

Mrs. Johanna Nordby was born June 1, 1861 in Trysil, Norway, the daughter of Paulo Grambo. She married Torgal Nordby in Fargo, N.D. in 1888.

Mrs. Nordby was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Trysil, Norway, and after moving to Douglas county in 1896, she became a member of the Trysil congregation near Holmes City.

Surviving sisters and brothers are Peder Grambo, Sask., Canada; Ole and John Grambo, Prosser, Wash.; Martha Nordby, Prosser, Wash.’; Pete Grambo, Pacific, Wash.; Rev. O.P. Grambo, Kintyre, N.D.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 at the Bethany Home for the aged in Alexandria June 22, 1937 and at the Trysil church at 2:30. Rev. A.J. Sheldahl, pastor of the Trysil church officiated at Bethany Home and Miss Irene Brundell and Miss Ebba Anderson sang “O Fade Each Earthly Joy” and Rev. Helseth of Minneapolis sang “Nearer, Still Nearer”, and the three ministers, Rev. A.A. Reece, Rev. Helseth of Minneapolis and Rev. A.J. Sheldahl of Farwell had charge of the church services. Interment was made in the church cemetery at Trysil church.
