Funeral services for Halvor T. Ness, 89, pioneer resident of Minneapolis and former city assessor for nearly 20 years, who died Tuesday at his home at 3109 Elliot Avenue, will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. from Our Saviour’s Lutheran church, Chicago avenue and 24th St. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery.
He had lived here for 62 years, coming from Trysil, Norway, where he was born. For 12 years he operated the Western House Hotel at 2nd St. and 2nd Ave. N, in the part of the city then called St. Anthony. Then he entered the grocery, and later feed business. It was while he operated these concerns that he acted as city assessor. He was a charter member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
Surviving him are a daugher, Mrs. Ida Waldeland of Minneapolis, and a son, Carl O. Ness of Los Angeles, California, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Halvor immigrated to America in 1868 in company with the Halvor Engemoen and Halvor Strandvold families.

2. Carl Oscar Ness, born 3 January 1886, died 20 May 1966. Buried Forest Lawn Cemetery, Glendale, Los Angeles, CA. First married Mary Irene Hodgeden. Second married Mabel Smith.
