Rosewood community
Mrs. Sorenson

The whole community was shocked last Monday evening at the news of Mrs. Peder Sorenson, aged Rosewood pioneer, sudden departure at 6:00 p.m. the same eveing. Mrs. Sorenson was an unusually strong woman in her days and had enjoyed good health up to the very day of her death, when towards evening she was arranging supper for her husband, the other members of the family being in the yard milking. They had been speaking among themselves, but after a while Mr. Sorenson noticed he was not answered, and glancing up noticed Mrs. Sorenson lingering at the pantry door and immediately after to fall in a heap on the floor. Hurrying to her assistance he found it impossible to raise her and calling the children they tried with united effort to bring her back to consciousness, but, in vain, her heart had stopped and death must have been instantaneous. The grief in the family is easily imagined. Mrs. and Mrs. Sorenson took a homestead two miles north of Rosewood about 25 years ago, when this whole settlement was an utter wilderness and was still residing on the same claim which now has been converted into a very profitable farm, containing nice buildings and residence with most of the land under cultivation. Mrs. Sorenson was the mother of 13 children, 8 of which survive her, namely Synneva, Evelyn and William Sorenson, Mrs. Adolph Haugen, Mrs. Ole Stroble of Angus, Mrs. C. Engelstad and Mrs. O. Anderson of Warren, and Mrs. Larson of Canada, all of which with the exception of Mrs. Larson, were home at the funeral held last Thursday afternoon at the Ringdahl church. Mrs. Sorenson was about 60 years old and a member of the Norwegian Lutheran church of this place. The funeral exercises were conducted by Rev. Aug. Bredeson of Thief River Falls. Mrs. Sorenson was a much beloved woman as well in her home as in society. She was an active member of the Norwegian Ladies Sewing Circle, having been treasurer of that society for a good many years. At the funeral her coffin was over-strewn with the prettiest flowers and bouquets.
