Oscar J Nygaard

Oscar Nygaard was born in Ben Wade Township, Lowry, Minnesota, February 7, 1891 the son of Jens and Ida Nygaard.  He was baptized and confirmed at the Trysil Church.

He was united in marriage to Olive Christianson on July 12, 1916.  They farmed in Holmes City Township.  Olive passed away January 1962.

Oscar Nygaard passed away at the Glenwood Retirement Home August 11, 1980 at the age of 89 years, 6 months.

He is survived by his wife Alice and six children:  Cora Windahl of Farwell, Julian Nygaard of Farwell, Mrs Martin (Edith) Anderson of New Brighton, Mrs Ralph (Sylvia) Haabala of Farwell, Mrs Orvis (Palma) Berg of Forest Lake, Mrs Herbert (Adeline) Berg of Alexandria; twenty grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Olive and one grandchild.

Funeral services were held at the Fron Church at Starbuck, Minnesota on Friday, August 15, 1980 with Rev Arvin Halvorson officiating.  Harold Bergby sang “Den Store Hvide Flok” and “I Know of a Sleep in Jesus’ Name” accompanied by Renee Halvorson.

Pallbearers were Phillip Haabala, Wayne Haabala, Howard Berg, Martin Anderson, Brian Berg and Darwin Nygaard.  Interment was at the Trysil Cemetery.

Arrangements were with the Hoplin Funeral Home.
