Mrs. Jos. Nygaard Last Rites Held At Trysil Church

Funeral services for Mrs Joseph Nygaard were held Saturday, April 11, at 2 pm, from the Trysil Lutheran church, Rev H N Schey officiated.

Priscilla Myhr sang “Beyond the Sunset” and “Den Store Hvide Flok” accompanied by Mrs H N Schey.   Interment was in the Trysil cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Harold Myhr, George Olson, Alvin Ellingson, Henry Anderson, David Anderson and Rowland Anderson.

Mrs Johanna Nygaard was born in Lillihammer, Norway, Aug 6, 1886, the daughter of Mathias and Bertha Bjerke.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Norway and came to the United States at the age of 18.

She was united in marriage to Joseph Nygaard on June 16, 1908.  They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year.

Mrs Nygaard passed away at the Minnewaska hospital in Starbuck on April 9, 1959 at the age of 72 years, 8 months and three days.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph; four daughters:  Mrs Roosevelt (Iva) Anderson, Mrs Clarence (Jennie) Anderson and Mrs Sigurd (Myrtis) Bjorklund, all of Hopkins, and Mrs Theodore (Harriet) Anderson of Farwell; two sons, Elmo of Minneapolis and Kermit of Hopkins; one brother in Norway, four sisters:  Mrs Marie Thompson of Minneapolis, Mrs Martha Thorson of Oregon and two in Norway; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Norma, and a sister, Magda.
