Ingerinus E. Lobeck, who at 87 years of age is still handy with tools, has been a resident of the United States since he came here in 1867 with his parents from Norway, the home of his birth.

Today the Appam (N.D.) man makes wire clothes baskets by hand. He has a patent on the idea which is one of several now on file in the U.S. patent office. Mr. Lobeck has always been fond of dogs. He believes in the philosophy that a good dog can teach his master many lessons in life.

The Appam man was born at Trysel (Trysil) Osterdolen, Norway, on March 28, 1848. He received his education in common schools in that community and in 1867 he came to America with his parents to settle in Minnesota.

Mr. Lobeck worked in Minneapolis for a few years before settling on a homestead in Douglas county, Minnesota. He farmed there until 1887 when he and his brother-in-law built and operated the first hotel at Lowry, Minn., for six years. Later he worked as a grain buyer until 1906 when he filed on 80 acres of land near Rudser, N.D.

He lived here until 1926 when his wife became an invalid and was taken to the home of their daughter, Mrs. P.J. Foss at Appam. Mrs. Lobeck passed away in 1928 and her husband has made his home there since.

The Appam man was a member of the first school board in his district, a township board member and member of the Free Lutheran church. His children are Mrs. P.J. Foss and J.L. Lobeck of Appam, Mrs. G.A. Loo, Topeka, Kansas, Emil Lobeck of Lewiston, Idaho, and Mrs. H.S. Robinson of Zahl (N.D) Sixteen grand children and seven great grandchildren have been born. His brother and sisters are Mrs. Carrie (Kari) Petterson, Williston; Rev. John Lobeck, Anieva, Wis., and Mrs. Olav Refsdal, Cook, Minn.
