Grandpa Johnson died at the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs Oscar Johnson, Wednesday morning, Jan 13, 1932, of heart failure. He has been in comparatively good health all the time and the end came very sudden and unexpectedly.

Magnus Johnson was the son of Mr and Mrs John Henrickson, born the 28th of Jan 1843 at Gunnarskog, Sweden. He was baptized, confirmed and married in his home land. He came to America in 1867, still a young man and among the thousands of emigrants who then came abroad he was one of those that settled down here in Ben Wade. He was therefore one of our pioneers, who had to suffer the hardships of those days. His first home was a log cabin. His first wife died and left a daughter, who is Mrs Martha Johnson of Fargo, ND. Years later he married Miss Anna Johnson, who died Jan 20, 1904. With this marriage there were three sons, Martin, Andrew and Oscar, who have all three passed away. Mr Johnson leaves to mourn his sudden departure, three sisters, Mrs Stina Johnson of Washington, Mrs Lidman of St Paul, Miss Kate Hendrickson of Fargo, ND, and a brother Martin Hendrickson of Fargo, ND, his daughter, Mrs Martha Johnson of Fargo, ND, who were all present at the funeral. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral services were held Saturday, Jan 16 from the home at one o’clock in the afternoon and at the Trysil Church of which he was one of the founders and also a member until his death. Rev Joseph Vaage, pastor of the church gave a very impressive sermon, also paying tribute to the pioneers of our country. Orvin Johnson, grandson of the deceased sang a solo, “The Old Rugged Cross”, also Miss Myrtle Omland sang, “Den Store Hoide Flok.” The floral offerings were beautiful, contributions to missions were given by the Trysil Ladies’ Aid, also other friends. Pallbearers were: Joseph Nygaard, Mandt Gulbranson, Henry Femrite, Johnnie Johnson, Martin Mortenson and Emil Gulbranson. Burial was in the Trysil cemetery. Mr Johnson lived to a ripe old age, if he had outlived his birthday the 28th of January, he would have reached the age of 89 years.

Rest in peace—blessed is his memory, He is gone, but not forgotten.
