Inez Jeanette Johnson, 92, died on Saturday, April 10, at the Glenwood Retirement Village.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 15, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lowry. Interment was in Trysil Cemetery, Lowry.

She was born in Lowry on July 8, 1906, the daughter of Enock and Thea (Nygaard) Johnson. She was a lifelong resident of Lowry, living in the house built by her father from 1909 until moving to the retirement home in 1994. She attended school in Lowry and worked for the Lowry Telephone Company for almost 60 years until her retirement in 1982. In 1984 she was the recipient of the Lowry Lion’s Club Citizen of the Year Award.

She was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and, at the time of her death, was the oldest living member. She had been active in the church, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, serving as treasurer of the congregation and participating in the LCW. One of her favorite activies was Do-Days at the church when the women made quilts to be sent overseas.

Surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Willard West; nephew, Ronald and Janice West of Rochester; nieces, Nancy and Ron Green of Colorado Springs and Valerie and Scott West of Los Angeles; and two grandnephews, Andrew Green and Benjamin West.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Inez Johnson died April 10 at the Glenwood Retirement Village where she had been a resident for a number of years. Born in Lowry and living there for over 80 years, in the house where she was born, she began working at the telephone company as a teenager and stayed almost 60 years.
