Enock Johnson

Enock Johnson passed away at his home in Lowry on Friday, February 27th at five-ten in the afternoon. He became ill with a sudden heart attack on Thursday morning.

Mr. Johnson was born at Manskog, Varmland, Sweden on March 15, 1871. His parents were John and Kari Johnson. He was baptised and confirmed at the church at Manskog, Sweden. He emigrated to this country at the age of sixteen, coming first to St. Paul. He also spent some time at Duluth. He came to Lowry in the year 1895 where he has since made his home and was engaged in the painting business.

He was a faithful member of the St. Pauli congregation and served as caretaker of the church for the past twenty years.

He was united in marriage to Thea Nygaard on June 6, 1905 at Trysil (church). Surviving him are his wife and two daughters, Inez and Norma ( Mrs. Willard West ) also one sister in Sweden and one cousin, John Nestberg of St. Paul. His parents, four brothers and sisters have preceded him in death.

Mr. Johnson was a kind and loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 3rd at one-thirty from the hhome and at two o’clock at the St. Pauli Lutheran church, Rev. A.J. Sheldahl officiating. Mrs. Sheldahl and Mrs. Melvin Bjokne sang “Jesus Only” at the home and “Jag star pa stormy jordans strand” at the church, this was a favorite song of the deceased. The choir sang “One Sweetly Solemn Thought” and “Jesus, Savior Pilot Me”.

He was laid to rest in the Trysil cemetery. The honorary pallbearers were Karl Skoglund of Hollman, Ira Misensol of Farwell, Herman Engebretson, John Kjokne, Anton Teigen and Gust Nelson. Active pallbearers were all nephews of Mr. Johnson, Johnnie, Clifford, Elmo, Julian and Lloyd Nygaard and Julian Wrolson.

A gift of $72 was given to missions in his memory by the family, friends and relatives.

There was a large attendance of relatives and friends at the services. Those who came from a distance were John Nestberg and daughter of St. Paul, Ed Nygaard and son of Minneapolis, Lloyd Nygaard of Zahl, North Dakota, Julian Wrolson of Appam, North Dakota, Dave Mortenson and daughter of Ambrose, North Dakota and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Erickson of Donnelly.
