Tone Torsdatter Sporastaul Jelstade

Tone Torsdatter Sporastaul Jelstade (Jorgenson) was born in Kviteseid, Telemark, Norway, in 1827. She was the daughter of Tor Tovsson Sporastaul and Gunnhild Olavsdotter Roeid. On Jan 15, 1854 she married Halvor Jelstade in Kviteseid, Telemark, Norway. The Jelstades daughter Guro was born to them in 1858 in Norway. In 1859 they came to America. The family settled in Rushford, Fillmore Co, MN.

In 1866 they moved with their three daughters to Ben Wade township, Pope County, MN, traveling by oxen and covered wagon. They were the first white settlers in Ben Wade township.

At her death, Tone was survived by her husband and four children: Guro (Mrs Syvert Femrite), Torena (Mrs. Charles Perkins), Gunhil (Mrs August Anderson) and George Jorgenson.

Tone died August 2, 1888 and is buried at the Trysil Lutheran Cemetery, Holmes City Twp, Douglas Co, MN.

DIED–On August 2, 1888, at the home of her daughter, Mrs Charles Perkins, in Alexandria, Tona, wife of Halver J Yelsted of Ben Wade, Pope county, aged 63 years and 5 months. The deceased had been failing for some time and was brought to Alexandria July 26th and died of a sudden attack of inflammation of the bowels.
