Former resident Dies
Word was received here last week that Ida Westby, eldest daughter to Mr. and Mrs. I.M. Westby of this place, died at her home in Los Angeles, Calif, on April 18, death coming after a lengthy illness with cancer.
Ida Karene Westby was born at Vestby, Tryssel, Norway on April 9, 1883. (Trysil churcbook states 8 Dec 1883). She accompanied her mother to America in 1891, going to Fargo, N.Dak., where they spent a year before joining Mr. Westby, who had filed a homestead claim at this place.
In 1898 she was confirmed at the Rindal church here under leadership of Rev. Aug. Bredeson of Thief River Falls. She left in 1913 for the west coast where she has since resided. For many years she has been making her permanent home at Los Angeles, where she conducted a real estate office. To mourn besides her parents are two brothers, Martin and Iver, residents of Goodridge, and the following sisters; Mrs. James Maloney of St. Louis, MO; Mrs. Ed Bursinger of Milwaukee, Wis; Mrs. Hilda Southard of Phoenix, Ariz; Mrs. Henry Rogers of Vancouver, Wash., and Mrs. C.J. Grout of Chicago, Ill. Funeral services were conducted at Los Angeles, the body being cremated.
