Old Pioneer Passes Away

Lars N. Himle, Old Resident of Douglas County is Called by Death

Lars N. Himle near Brandon passed away in his home last Wednesday afternoon October 27th.

Mr. Himle was born in Voss, Norway, June 26th, 1837. He was 83 years and four months old at the time of his death.

He immigrated with his parents to America in 1850 and settled in Dane County, Wisconsin the same year. Later he moved up to Douglas county where he has lived ever since until his death. He lived on the same place for 46 years.

Mr. Himle leaves two daughters, Anna Himle and Mrs. Ida McDonald of Wood, S.D., and one sister Mrs. Ammon in Minneapolis and one grandson, Harry Himle.

Funeral services were held Saturday in Trysil church and Rev. Eidnes officiated. The remains were laid to rest in the Trysil cemetery. The pallbearers were: Ole Quinlogue, John Aasen, Pete Omland, Theo. Swenson, Einer Steen and E.P. Eiben.

Lars was born at Nedre Himle, Vossevangen, Voss, Hordaland, Norway.  In Dane co, WI, he married Brita Knutsdatter Unneland who was born 1 Sep 1839 in Hjellen, Vossestrand, Voss, Hordaland, Norway.  Brita died prior to 1870 in Dane co, WI.  Her parents were Knut Olavson Afdal and Ingebjørg Steffadatter Hole.  Lars was left with four sons when Brita died and he married again, probably in Dane County.  The family moved to Douglas county, MN about 1874 where he and his second wife, Ingeborg, had two daughters together, Anna and Ida.
