After their marriage, Carl and Pernille moved over to Sweden and lived at Koppersberg, Sweden until they emigrated to America in May 1892 with their two-year-old daughter, Ida. They farmed in Holmes City township for many years. In the last six years of Pernille’s life, she suffered with cancer and died at their farm home in Holmes City.

Funeral services for Mrs. Carl Gronfossen were conducted at Trysil church Friday afternoon, Rev. A.J. Sheldahl of Farwell and Rev. S.J. Lindseth of Borup officiating. She was laid to rest in the Trysil cemetery. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Arne Hagen, of Cooperstown and four granddaughters, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
