Rites Held Tuesday for Olaus Flermoen,
Early Winger Resident
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 30 for Olaus O. Flermoen who passed away on May 23. Rev. C.S. Lystig officiated at the services at the Flermoen home and the Gosen church.
Olaus Flermoen was born in Trysil, Osterdalen, Norway on October 7, 1862 to Ole and Ingeborg Flermoen. He grew up in that country and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
He immigrated to America in 1888 and arrived in the Thirteen Towns in July of the same year. In 1897 he was married to Emma Guldbranson of Douglas county, Minnesota. To this union 6 children were born, one of whom died in infancy.
Mr. Flermoen had been seriously ill for many months and passed away at his home at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 16 days.
Left to mourn are his wife and the following children: Edwin, Ida (Mrs. Sigurd Mjovig) , Llewellyn, Edella ( Mrs. Joseph Hedman) and Dennis. There are also 16 grandchildren of whom the oldest, Orville Flermoen, is serving with the U.S. Army somewhere in England. Also surviving are two brothers, Karl of Minneapolis and Olaf of Deer Lodge, Montana, and as far as is known, 2 brothers and 2 sisters in Sweden and Norway. He was a kind and loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family.
Honorary pallbearers were H.S. Aasen, S.O. Hukee, Ole Skeie, Nils Anderson, Jonas Jonson, Peter Myhr, Andrew Egge and Nils Messelt. Active pallbearers were Hans Zahl, Otto Grambo, Oluf Haugen, Carl Voxland, Emil Ostmoe and Bernt Nornes. During the services, Mrs. Berge sang two numbers accompanied by Mrs. Halvor Nornes.
Out -of-town relatives and friends attending the services were Edwin Flermoen of Muskegon, Mich.; Mrs. Lawrence Christianson of Kelly Lake, Minnesota; and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Gulbrandson, Mrs. Christ Steen, Mandt Guldbranson and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Guldbranson of Alexandria; Mrs. Inger Opseth and Ingvald Opseth of Prince Albert, Canada; Mrs. Ronald V. Hunter of Denton, Texas; Miss Eleanor Flermoen of Bemidji; Mrs. Emily Hangaard and son and Peter Anderson of Gully; Andrew Anderson of Trail; Mr. and Mrs. Severin Engebretson of Bagley; Mr. and Mrs. Ole Glomsrud, Mr. and Mrs. Gunnar Glomsrud and family, all of Bagley; Mrs. Martin Erickson of Clearbrook; and Edna and Gustav Ostby of Detroit, Michigan.
