Ole Finstad, 82, Dies Thursday

Ole Finstad, 82, Route 4, died yesterday at the Brainerd Nursing home.
Born at Trysil, Feb 4, 1887, Mr Finstad had resided in this area for 16
years. He was a retired manufacturer of agricultural machinery.

Mr Finstad was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran church.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Saturday at Bethlehem
Lutheran church, the Rev Arthur Rimmereid and the Rev Martin Olson
officiating. Committal and interment services will be held at 3pm at
Trysil, Bethesda cemetery near Alexandria, the Rev Sigurd Berg
officiating.

Mr Finstad is survived by his wife, Marie; two brothers in Norway,
nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral home this afternoon
and evening and at the church prior to the service

Ole Olsen Finstad was born Feb 4, 1887, at Sveva, Sætre East in
Trysil, Norway, but grew up in Gjedsjøberget in Trysil. His parents
were Kersti Jonsdatter Sveva, Engemoen, and Ole Larsen Storsveen,
Høljegnollen, Storsveen. His mother became a widow in 1890 and later
married Johannes Olsson from Transtrand in Sweden. They settled at
Finstad in Gjedsjøberget, and then took the surname “Finstad. Ole
attended school at Østby.
In 1911, Ole immigrated to the US and settled at Binford, North
Dakota, where his old neighbors the Øvres now lived. After a time he
also met Grambo descendants and the Sogaarden family in America. Ole settled at Binford for a while, and found work there. But later he
moved to Black Duck in Minnesota where he ran a hotel and was engaged in working as a lumberjack.

On June 4, 1924, Ole married Lille (Olea Olsdatter)Sogaarden and they
lived in Minneapolis, MN. Lillie died in 1938, and later in 1942 Ole
married Lillie’s younger sister Marie, who was a widow. They lived in
Minneapolis until Ole retired in 1954 and at that time they moved to
South Long Lake, approx 10 miles south of Brainerd, MN. Ole died Oct 9,
1969 and is buried at the Trysil Cemetery, Holmes City twp, MN.
