OBITUARY: MRS. KÅREN BUEIDE STANGELAND

Mrs. Kåren Bueide Stangeland, daughter of Paul and Maren Mortenson, was born at Trysil, Østerdalen, Norway on August 7, 1868 and passed away at her home near Argusville, North Dakota at 12 noon, Friday, April 18, 1941 at the age of 72 years, 8 months, 11 days.

Mrs. Stangeland came with her parents to America in 1870 and spent the first winter at Holmes City, Minnesota. The following summer the family moved to a place 13 miles north of Fargo on the west banks of the Red River where she spent the years of her childhood and youth.

In 1889 she was united in marriage to Rev. Lars H. Bueide and made her home in Britton, South Dakota where Rev. Bueide served a parish of the United Norwegian Lutheran Church. To this union were born 7 children. Two of the children have passed away: Anna Margrethe, 1909; and Carl Ludvig, 1899. Rev. Bueide passed away July 5, 1912 at Dixon, Montana

It was in the late summer of 1910 that the family moved to Dixon, Montana. After Rev. Bueide’s death the family moved to the present home near Argusville now operated by Mr. & Mrs. Arne Stangeland.

On October 8, 1933 she was united in marriage with Mr. Sjur Stangeland of Argusville and the two made their home on the Bueide farm until Mr. Stangeland passed away on June 17, 1936.

Mrs Stangeland has lived with her youngest daughter, Mrs. Arne Stangeland, on the home farm since 1934 until her death. Here, tenderly cared for by her daughters, Mrs. John Ostby and Mrs. Arne Stangeland and her daughter-in-law Mrs. H. M. Bueide, she spent the last two months of her earthly life. She seemed to be content to be here.

Mrs. Stangeland leaves her five children: Mrs. John Ostby, Dixon, Mont.; Rev. Harold M. Bueide, Wallace, S. D.; Mrs. Arne Stangeland, Argusville, N. D.; Rev P. K. Lawrence Bueide, Fergus Falls, Minn.; and Oscar  T. Bueide, Moorhead, Minn. She also leaves three brothers: O. J. Mortenson, Peter M. Mortenson, Moorhead, Minn., and Emil J. Mortenson, Sebastopol, California; three sisters: Mrs. O. J. Ovrebo, Aneta, N. D.; Mrs. John Soberg, Prosser, Wash.; and Mrs N. A. Peterson, Valier, Mont. and 12 grand children.

Mrs. Kåren Bueide Stangeland will be remembered by her children as a kind and devoted Christian Mother. Her prayer life, her generosity to the Christian cause and her loyalty to her Lord and Savior will always be an inspiration for their lives. God bless her memory!
