Mrs Gunil Anderson was born in Rushford, Minn, on Jan 2, 1861 to Halvor and Toni  Jergenson.  At the age of five she moved with her parents and two older sisters to Pope county.  Mrs Anderson traveled to Pope county in a covered wagon drawn by oxen.  This wagon served as living quarters until Mrs Anderson’s father was able to build a log cabin.  The first log cabin was 10 x 12 feet.  The only people Mrs Anderson saw during her first days in this county were the Indians.  They had a camp in the woods near the home of Mrs Anderson and came to trade wild ducks and geese for flour.  Mrs Anderson often heard their squeeky carts as they passed her home on their way from Winnipeg to St Paul.  Mrs Anderson’s father had to drive with oxen to St Cloud for groceries.  This was a trip of several days.  Mrs Anderson also remembered a time her father killed a bear with his axe, and two years when grasshoppers destroyed the crops.  The only light they had came from a tin saucer in which wild animal fat was placed.  A strip of thread or cloth served as a wick.  She was 10 or 12 years old before the first school was built in her home area.  The first post office she remembered was on the south side of Chippewa creek on highway 114.  She was married to August Anderson in the Trysil church on June 29, 1880.  She was ill about 3 months and died of the infirmities of old age at the home of her son Ed Anderson on Monday, May 26, at 2:30 pm.

Survivors include:  four sons, Henry L, of San Antonio, Texas, Hank L, of Minneapolis, Len E and Ed O of Lowry; one daughter, Mrs Alfred (Etta) J. Lomheim, Sauk Centre; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.  Her husband, August, died in April, 1929.

Relatives and friends attending the funeral were from El Cerrito, Calif, Chicago, Ill, Minneapolis, and the surrounding area.
