Obituary ~ Alexandria Post News, 10 May 1917, p5

One of the earliest pioneer settlers of this county died at his home in Holmes City after a residence there of over fifty years.  Ole Pedersen Bergsven was born in Norway, July 15, 1829, and died April 23 at 6:30 at the old age of 87 years, 9 months and 8 days.  He grew to manhood in Norway and was married there to Miss Anna Olsen.  They came to this country in 1866 and with the exception of the first year spent in Oscar Lake, he has made his home continuously on the farm he took as a homestead in those early pioneer days of Douglas county history.

Ten children came to bless this home, four of whom were born in Norway.  Three are dead, two of whom died in infancy and Peter Pedersen, who died in March 1916.  Those remaining are Mrs. Oline (Anton) Hanson, Andrew and Edward Pederson of Holmes City; Mrs. Martha Davis of Spruce Hill; Mrs. Agnes Imes of Thermopolis, Wyoming; Mrs. Tilda Grotte and Mrs. Augusta McCan of Minneapolis.  Mrs. Pedersen died in August, 1910.

Mr. Pedersen was a devout Christian and his supreme wish was to go to his Savior. He was one of the first members of the Trysil church in which he labored faithfully until he became too weak to leave his home.  His illness was cancer of the stomach and he has been a patient sufferer for the past two years.  During his long illness he has had the tender care of his children who did all they could for him. Mrs. Imes came last October and stayed until three weeks ago when she returned to her home in Wyoming.

Mrs. Grotte and Mrs. McCan were present at the funeral.

Funeral services were held Friday from the church and from the home at 11 o’clock, Rev Mr. Lindseth officiating. Interment was at the Trysil cemetery.  The pall bearers were Elmer McCan, John Bergstrom, Jens Nygard, Isaac Isakson, Peter Myhr and Mr. Amlund . The floral tributes were beautiful showing the esteem in which he was held. Miss Selma Swenson of Minneapolis, Miss Bertha Christianson, Mrs. Martha Davis and Mrs. J.A. Lusty of Spruce Hill were present at the funeral.

Believe this to be the correct parents.~~Source information: Oppland county, Fåberg in Fåberg, Parish register copy nr. 4 (1818-1837), Birth and baptism records 1829, page 262-263. Permanent pagelink:  http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kil 1 deid=9277&idx_id=9277&uid=ny&idx_side=-132Permanent imagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20070603630133.jpg
